The Start Of It All
02:21
|
|||
I bought a guitar on a whim one day
In a small town overseas
I told myself that I’d learn to play
So I could write songs with all my friends
But I never got the rhythm down
And eventually we all skipped town
I still wrote words for the punk rock songs
That we never made
Every memory
Every laugh we shared
Those days are gone
They faded away
I want to see world one day
I want a fresh perspective
I want to do what I never thought I could
I want to play this guitar
And never worry if it takes me far
That was never the goal
That was never the goal
That was never
Every memory
Every laugh we shared
Those days are gone
They faded away
Everything’s gonna be okay
Everything’s gonna be okay
We’ll see tomorrow anyway

Back In '18
02:45
|

August 19th back ’18
I found a letter from myself
It read, it read
If you’re reading this, then that means you’re on your way home from
The summer of a lifetime abroad
We both know that you’re a different man when you’re overseas
But it doesn’t have to be this way
You’re confident, you’re outgoing, and you’re not afraid to try new things
You can do anything you want to
You’re worth more than you give yourself the credit for
Everyone around you sees it, too
It’s true
Back in ’18, I wanted so much
Back in ’18, I wanted everything
Back in ’18, I wanted so much
Back in ’18, I wanted everything
I wanted everything
Back in ’18
Look at me, I’m confident
I’m happy, and I sure as hell don’t want to go away
Don’t forget about me
And do your best to be more like me even when you’re home
‘Cause I know that’s what you want
It’s what you want
Like back in ’18
Back in ’18

A Perfect World
02:23
|
|||
It was 4 am in the middle of December
I was on a car ride to the airport
Heading home from Nagasaki for the holiday
Hoping that I’d come back one day
The driver asked where I see myself in a perfect world
Five years from now
I hesitated and said “Maybe I’ll be here if I’m lucky”
And he said “I didn’t ask what you’d settle for
In a perfect world, where are you five years from now?”
And I thought I’d be oceans away from home
And spend holidays away from family
Missing them dearly
I don’t think I could go years at a time seeing them rarely
But there I was in a perfect world five years from now
So far away from my family
It’s not what I need

Growing Up
02:01
|
|||
Grow out my hair
Get another tattoo
And lie about how I changed so much
Cut my hair again
Just like I planned
And tell myself I’m growing up
Maybe I’m actually growing up
Maybe I’m just getting old
Maybe I’m actually growing up
But maybe I’m just getting old
Ditch this old town
Go somewhere new
And escape from all the noise
Photos remind me of times that passed
And I know that we can’t go back
‘Cause we’re on a finite track moving forward
‘Cause we’re all moving ahead
I don’t want to lose who I am
I don’t want to lose who I…
I don’t want to lose who I am

Aligned
02:11
|
|||
The days seem to fly by
Yet I’ve been here the whole time
The pages turn and I write more
I don’t want the story to reach a bitter end
‘Cause I felt like I’ve been here for too long
Stuck in this town
The daily routine did nothing but
Bring me down
I’ve been trapped for too long
Stuck writing sad songs
At least until I met you
And suddenly home ain’t so bad
With you I can defeat the dark
You can light up my world
It’s so crazy that we got the chance
To see the stars line up
So I could ask you to dance
I’m kinda shy and quiet all the time
But with you I have the confidence to break through
These walls I built to protect myself
I don’t even need them anymore
I don’t even need them anymore
I don’t want them anymore

For The Record
02:20
|
|||
You don’t have to leave right now
I don’t want to be alone
We can put a record on and let it spin
Again and again
‘Cause I want to show you all my favorite songs
So maybe we can dance and sing along
So…
Let the record spin
For the record
My heart never felt so whole
I used to draw my days in black and white
You painted the color in my life
You’re the sunshine that cast aside the rain
The beautiful melodies in my head don’t compare to you, so…
So…
Let the record spin
For the record
My heart never felt so whole
And I don’t want you to go

That Night In July
02:40
|
|||
You walked into my life
On a rainy evening in July
We talked about ourselves to pass the time
And we had no idea
That night would change our lives
Because at one time I thought
I’d be happy anywhere but here
Anywhere but here
Anywhere but here
I’d be happy anywhere but here
I’d be happy anywhere but here
We met again on a sunny day
For ice cream and a walk downtown
I asked if I could be the one
To make you smile every day
You said yes and asked if we could kiss
I felt the nerves piling up inside
Yet it turned out to be the start
Of the greatest moments of my life
When the sun rises and when it sets
I want to be by your side
You make me feel complete
In ways I can’t describe
I don’t want to run away
But I still want to see the world
I want to see the world with you
Yeah, I want to see the world with you
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
You walked into my life
On a rainy evening in July
We talked about ourselves to pass the time
And we had no idea
That night would change our lives
Because at one time I thought
I’d be happy anywhere but here

There are so many landscapes
Far from where I’ve been
Does it matter if I see them
If I don’t see them next to you
I want to watch the sunrise from Mt. Fuji
And see the Eiffel Tower at night
But more than any of that
I want to wake up by your side
I’d take a polaroid picture by the ocean
As the waves rush to my knees
But I’d rather make memories near home
If it means you’re there with me
And that would make me happy
That would make me happy
I’d be happy if you’re doing well always
There’s so many landscapes
Far from where I’ve been
Does it matter if I see them
If I don’t see them next to you
I want to watch the sunrise from Mt. Fuji
And see the Eiffel Tower at night
But more than any of that
I want to wake up by your side
I want to wake up by your side

Anchors Aweigh
02:04
|
|||
This is the end of all we’ve known
And I think that we should sail the sea without a care in the world
I want to get away from everything
But you and raise the anchor
I wouldn’t spend a day without you
I love everything about you
So pack your bags
Pack your bags and bring the dog
We leave at dawn
Anchors aweigh
I would go anywhere as long as it’s with you
I wouldn’t worry about the little things as long as I have you
You keep me grounded when the seas are rough
And you mean so much
You keep me afloat so
The world is so vast
And there’s so much to see
But it wouldn’t mean a thing
If you aren’t there with me

Wake Up With You
02:56
|
|||
Here we go, it’s all gonna be alright
We’re gonna see the world tonight
Here we go, it’s all gonna be alright
We’re gonna see the world tonight
Wake up at the crack of dawn
As the sun rises while I sing this song
I wanna hold you close and never let go
As the tide rolls in, I want you to know
I’m gonna be here for everything
I’m gonna be here through every storm
Here we go, it’s all gonna be alright
We’re gonna see the world tonight
Here we go, it’s all gonna be alright
We’re gonna see the world tonight
Stay up late and take a polaroid by the sunset
As the waves flow gently towards us
I just wanna fall asleep in your arms
And wake up together
Wake up together with you
Wake up with you
I wanna wake up with you

Bella
02:40
|
|||
You cuddle close and lay next to me
For an early morning belly rub
Before your mommy wakes up
And we start the day
You get dressed just like we do
Yeah, the winter will be cold
But I am here for you
I am yours to hold
And I’m never far
Bella, little baby bear
You’re such a sweet girl
Bella, Bella
You are seriously such an adorable little dog
You have an incredible mother that loves you very much
And it’s so obvious that you love her, too
You two really are made for each other
And I’m so happy that you have each other
I am, Bella
Bella, little baby bear
You’re such a sweet girl
Bella, Bella
You join me when I play guitar
We study outside or on the couch
Bella, little baby bear
You’re such a sweet girl
Bella, Bella

Right Where I Belong
02:56
|
|||
I am here for everything that comes my way
And I promise I won’t be so scared
Just take a small step forward in confidence
And land right where I belong
If life is a race, I don’t want to go fast
All these precious moments fading to the past
I just need a moment to anchor myself
So I don’t drift out to sea
And get lost like I’ve been before
I don’t want to be lost like I’ve been before
‘Cause I’m right where I belong
I’m right where I belong
I’m right where I belong
And I’m not going anywhere

Glacier Memories
00:59
|
|||
Hey man, it’s been a while since I’ve called
Just wanted to drop in and say I was looking
At our photos from Glacier National Park
How in the world was that over four years ago already?
And how did we make that trip work out?
You were recently married
I was going to Japan so often
Man…
Now your son’s gonna be two
He’s gonna realize there’s a whole world out there to explore
Well, maybe not yet but you can never start preparing too early, right?
Our lives were so, so different back then
I felt lost more often than I care to admit, really
I think that’s why I went overseas so often
To maybe escape from everything
But I’ve been doing well lately
And I hope you’re doing well, too
Take it easy, and I’ll see ya when I see ya
Later, man
I forgot to hang up
